Cebu's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System Soon to Operate

Cebu's BRT or Bus Rapid Transit System soon to be started building after getting fund from DBM. BRT in Cebu will improve the transportation and will help millions of lives and daily commuters in the main city of Visayas. The project has P9.48 billion of total amount.

Routes
"It is expected to become the first operational bus rapid transit project in the Philippines.  Only one line has been planned in detail so far, but scheme developers note the potential to develop a larger network comprising the adjacent cities Lapu-LapuMandaue and Talisay.  Leadership in both Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue have shown interest in the network. It is expected the first route could be operational by the end of 2014. "

Ticketing and Fares
Ticketing is likely to use pre-pay smart cards like that used for Rapid Transport in Singapore and Hong Kong. The pre-feasibility assessment for the BRT route states that if the fares were charged at the same level as Jeepneys then the ticket revenue would be US$15 million per year, of which US$1.5 million is expected to be profit/surplus

MANILA, Philippines–As Metro Manila struggles to get its trains in order, Cebu will finally get its own mass transit system that promises to improve “urban mobility” in Visayas’ main city, improving the lives of millions.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Wednesday announced it had released funding for Cebu’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which is expected to spur economic activity in Visayas.

“Once completed, the project will give Cebu’s commuters a fast, comfortable and cost-effective mode of transportation,” Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said in a statement.

The DBM announced it had approved the funding strategy and likewise issued a Forward Obligational Authority (FOA) to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) for the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in the total amount of P9.48 billion.

The new bus transit—which will be funded through loans from Agence Francaise de Development (AFD), the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the Clean Technology Fund—would provide a safer, more efficient and environment-friendly mode of travel in and around Cebu city.

“The main idea here really is to emulate a modern rail-based transit system at a much lower cost,” the DBM said.

The DBM’s approval would “allow the government to process the loans for the project. The FOA will also help us in avoiding unnecessary commitment fees along the way.”

As approved by the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) board, the Cebu bus rapid transit system will be undertaken this year and finished in 2018, with a total project cost of P10.62 billion.
The Forward Obligational Authority (FOA) issued by DBM covers P9.48 billion of this amount—a combination of the national government contribution and loan proceeds—in accordance with the approved funding strategy submitted by the DOTC.

The remaining P1.14 billion will be shouldered by the private sector and will be mainly utilized for the purchase of necessary motor vehicles.

“The implementation of the project alone will open various employment opportunities for the construction and manufacturing sectors,” Abad said.

Our Trip to Osmena Peak traverse to Kawasan Falls in Badian, Cebu

In this article we will give you information about trip to Osmena Peak in Dalaguete, Cebu traverse to Kawasan Falls in Badian. Osmena Peak is the highest peak in Cebu, Philippines and a tourists destination. The most amazing things you can see when you're at the top of the peak are the mountains, landscapes and the views. For the other vacationists called it a place where you can think and forget all your problems.

It's not that easy to reach Osmena Peak because you will have to climb mountain before you reach the place. Our trip to Osmena Peak with my friends were very challenging because we've started walking from Mantalungon Public Market. It's about 1-2 hours before we reached Osmena Peak but there are habal-habal or motorcycles that can reach the "Tiilan" which is already near to the peak and camp sites. Expect the cold weather when you're at the top and the fogs will cover the place which sometimes there's zero visibility.

The next day, early morning  we ate our breakfast and packed our things for the journey to Kawasan Falls. Somebody told us the difficulties and challenges travelling to Kawasan because we have to climb many mountains following thin trail with a cliff at the other side, we have to walk for about 5-6 hours non-stop and face our fears at the middle of the jungle where no one will help you when you're in trouble. We've started walking around 7am from Osmena Peak and we reached Kawasan Falls around 12nn so it's 5 hours trip. What I have learned from the trip were perseverance, patience, keep positive and stay strong. I have to keep my feet move eventhough it's too tired already.

How do we get to Osmena Peak from Cebu City? How much money do we need to bring?
Well, it's not that expensive and you don't need to bring plenty of money because there are no stores in the place. Actually, there are two options going to Osmena Peak.

First Option:
From Cebu City you ride a bus going to Dalaguete proper. The fare is 100 - 120 pesos. When you reach Dalaguete town, you will ride motorcycle or habal-habal going to "Tiilan" for a fare of 100 Pesos. From "Tiilan" you need to have a guide going to the peak, a child and you can give him a money (100 pesos).

Second Option:
You can ride a bus going directly to Mantalungon Market but you have to go to Carbon Public Market in Cebu City (hourly trip). From Carbon Public Market going to Mantalungon Public Market, the fare is 100 Pesos. You will ride a motorcycle from Public Market going to Tiilan for 50 Pesos. Then have a guide going to Osmena Peak (100 pesos).

REMINDER:
Bring enough food and water. Bring extra Money. Bring trashbags
Bring sweater for cold weather protection
Bring Chocolates and snacks
Bring extra shirts but you have to travel light.
Bring camping tents
Lastly, bring a Camera to capture you moments :D :D :D
